Hebrews 13:5
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
The word ‘conversation‘ as used in this verse originally means ‘way of life‘. So we are being told that our way of life shouldn’t be covetous.
Do you know that we are not on the same level financially?
It is normal to find that your friend can easily afford something which at that particular time is “beyond you”.
You must have had neighbours that had more money than you. Probably ate better food and dressed better clothes than you. Although we have an unshakable HOPE in Christ concerning our lives, our present circumstances at times fall short of the ideal.
In this view, the writer of Hebrews (who I believe is Paul) brings out this special wisdom. DON’T STRETCH yourself trying to be like everyone!
Why stretch to buy clothes beyond your present level, eat in restaurants or go to trips that are clearly beyond your present level??
